Dr. Marilyn Merch is a character featured in "Z Nation", first encountered in Season 1 Episode 1 "Puppies and Kittens".
Background[]
Dr. Merilyn Merch specializes in genetic recombination. She went to Harvard. Her skill in gene-splicing makes miracles possible. Two years before the zombie outbreak she disappeared. Where she was during this time is unknown.
Post-Apocalypse[]
She resurfaces at the Portsmouth infection lab at Portsmouth Naval Prison in 02AZ, where she injects prisoners with an experimental vaccine.
The vaccine kills two of the prisoners but works for the last prisoner, Alvin Murphy. Murphy survives both the vaccine and eight zombie bites and is saved by Mark Hammond.
Due to the security breach by a horde of zombies, she is forced to leave the lab. Mark Hammond escorts her to a helicopter on the roof and she hasn't been seen since.
Her supposed last know whereabouts is a lab at Fort Collins, Colorado where Walter Kurian claims she "didn't make it."
She is later found working for Zona on their submarine lab. After Murphy blows up the lab, he bites Dr. Merch and turns her into a blended that he can control. She is then (unwillingly) working for Murphy in order to create a race of blends. Eventually, she finds out that using some of the original vaccines can counter Murphy's mind control. She gives a dose to 10K in order to escape. Murphy then bites her again. While Merch is struggling with what is left of her human side, she walks into a group of zombies, takes the vaccine one last time and let the zombies devour her.
Death[]
Killed by
- Herself (Suicide)
- Zombie
- Alvin Murphy (Indirectly Caused)
Murphy bites her a second time after she breaks his original mind control. She uses the last dosage of the vaccine she had with her to break his control and walks into a herd of zombies. The zombies begin to tear her flesh off of her bones, devouring her.
Memorable Quotes[]
"In accordance with the Emergency Executive Order, Section Seven, you are hereby notified that you have been selected for exposure to an experimental substance. Should the tests fail, all efforts will be made to contact your next of kin, signed President Lindsay Barton." -- Dr. Merch, to prisoners being experimented on at the beginning of Episode 1 "Puppies and Kittens"
